Whale Watching
When: 1/28/06, Sunday 1:30 pm
Where: Dana Point Harbor
With the success and popularity of the Whale Watching outing from
2006, I am happy to announce that Pack 580 will be holding this
outing in 2007. The event particulars are as follows:
When: Sunday, January 28, 2007
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
(Check-in is 1:30 p.m. at the dock)
Where: Dana Point Harbor
Vendor: Dana Wharf Sport Fishing
Cost: $15.00 per person
I
have reserved a boat exclusively for Pack 580, so there will be no
boarding passes issued. The boat holds 149 people and this will be a
first come first served as far as reserving your space.
There are no refunds. If you pay for your space and are unable to
attend, you can try and find someone to buy your space from you.
If
you were not able to sign-up at the November or December Pack meetings,
there is still space available. There is no pack meeting until AFTER
the outing. Persons wishing to attend should contact me at (714)
317-9394 so that arrangements can be made to reserve your spot and get
your payment.
The
price per person, scout and/or family member, is $15.00 per person. As
with all outings, Scouts can come solo, except Tigers, provided that a
Consent/Medical Authorization form comes with the scout. The
Consent/Authorization for is posted on the website at
www.pack580.com . Click on the “Activities” tab and you will find
the link in the left margin
Please visit
the website listed below regarding parking and directions
Parking at Dana Point Harbor is crowded. Whale watchers can, and
should, park in the boat launch parking area, which is just before
Golden Lantern. Try to get to the harbor by 1:30, because the boat will
not wait for you to arrive. Check in with me after arrival. The drive
from Yorba Linda takes about 1 hour. You can find more information
here.
I recommend caps, sunglasses, jackets, binoculars, cameras, and towels
as items to bring along. Pack T-shirts and Scout caps are the uniform
of the day for the Scouts. You may need the towels if you spend most of
your time near the bow of the boat. The ocean spray will soak one after
a while. A poncho/rain coat may be appropriate if you know that your
boy will likely be hanging around the bow. And don't forget the motion
sickness medication if you are prone to getting seasick.
There are a number of restaurants at the harbor to go to either before
or after the trip. Also, the boat has a "galley" that sells snacks and
drinks, but remember that no alcohol is allowed to be consumed at any
Cub Scout activity or outing.
Should you have any questions, please contact me via telephone and/or
e-mail.
Respectfully,
Alan Wilkes, Outings Chair
