Family Campout
When: 04/27/07, Friday to
04/29/07, Sunday
Where: Caspers Regional Park,
33401 Ortega Hwy., San
Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
The family camp out for Pack 580 is
scheduled for Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, April 27-29, 2007 at Caspers
Wilderness Park in San Juan Capistrano. We have reserved group
camping area “A” in the San Juan Meadow area of the park.
For those of you who participated in
2006, this is the same area. Our reservation is for 60 campers and 24
cars. No camping trailers / RV’s / motor homes are allowed. Pack
leadership will be arriving early on the 27th to set-up the
main camp.
DIRECTIONS:
- 5 Freeway South
- Exit Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano, going
east/left
- Go about 7.5 miles to the park entrance
- Go to San Juan Meadows Campsites A & B (see
attached
park map)
CHECK-IN:
Campers may check-in/set-up anytime
after 2:00 p.m. There is a vehicle charge of $5.00 per night that
includes the camping fees of the driver. Other campers are charged a
rate of $2.00 per night. Camp will conclude Sunday morning after Scout’s
Own (a gathering of Scouts held to contribute to the development of
their spirituality and to promote a fuller understanding of the Scout
Law.)
If you are not camping but dropping off
your son, please make arrangements to have an adult present to accept
your son. As a reminder, any youth not attending with their parent need
to have a consent/release form completed and in the youth’s possession
at all times. The consent/form can be found on the pack website in the
left margin under the activities tab
This $2.00 fee includes any camper being
dropped off, even if the person dropping off is not camping. If you are
dropping off, then the fee is only $2.00 per camper, you do not have to
pay the $5.00 vehicle fee.
SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES:
-
Wilderness Hike
-
Games/Arts & Crafts for all ages of
Scouts
-
Saturday Night Pack Dinner (food
provided by the Pack)
-
Saturday Night Skits & Campfire
-
Scout’s Own Service on Sunday
FOOD:
Families are responsible for their own meals, except
for Saturday night's dinner, which the Pack will provide and volunteers
will cook. There will also be a
Cracker Barrel on Friday night consisting of snacks and drinks.
LODGING:
Our camping sites are set near a natural
creek with grassy, mostly flat areas. There is good tree coverage for
shade and a nearby playground. There are no showers that I know of but
there is a bathroom and sink within walking distance of our site. I
would recommend a jacket and a hat as it can get cool in the evenings.
As always with scouting events, there is
no alcohol allowed and if your scout does not attend with a parent, then
they need to have the consent form filled out and with them throughout
the campout.
Should you need assistance with what you
should take for the campout, please contact Alan Wilkes for questions or
clarification. I do have some extra camping gear should you also have
this need.
Thanks in advance for your
participation. I am looking forward to another great campout and the
exciting things we experience together as a pack. Please contact me with
questions. I can be reached at (714) 317-9394 or

Respectfully,
Alan Wilkes, Outings Chair
