Pack 580 – Family Campout

O’Neill Regional Park Trabuco Canyon

Friday, August 10 to Sunday, August 12, 2007

The family camp out for Pack 580 is scheduled for Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, August 10-12, 2007 at O’Neill Regional Park in Trabuco Canyon. O’Neill Regional Park is located within a 30-45 minute drive of Yorba Linda on paved roads.

Pack 580 will be camping in Sycamore Flats Campground Sites “C” & “D.” Our reservation is for 100 people and 50 cars. The camp kitchen will be in the “C” area campground. This is where the pack dinner & campfire will take place on Saturday evening.

CHECK-IN & DIRECTIONS:

O’Neill Regional Park is located off of Live Oak Canyon 3-5 miles from Cook’s Corner which is located at the corner of El Toro Road & Live Oak Canyon. From Yorba Linda, you may take either Santiago Canyon Road, turn LEFT onto Live Oak Canyon, or Take the 5 freeway, exit El Toro and head west. Once you reach Cook’s Corner, turn RIGHT onto Live Oak Canyon. The park entrance is on the right hand side. If you reach the fire station, you have gone too far.

Campers may check-in/set-up anytime after 2:00 p.m. There is a vehicle charge of $5.00 per night that includes the camping fees of the driver. Other campers are charged a rate of $2.00 per night. All fees are paid at the ranger station located at the park entrance. Camp will conclude Sunday morning after camp clean-up & breakdown and Scout’s own (a gathering of Scouts held to contribute to the development of their spirituality and to promote a fuller understanding of the Scout Law.)

If you are not camping but dropping off your son, please make arrangements to have an adult present to accept your son. As a reminder, any youth not attending with their parent need to have a consent/release form completed and in the youth’s possession at all times. The consent/form can be found on the pack website in the left margin under the activities tab

This $2.00 fee includes any camper being dropped off, even if the person dropping off is not camping.  If you are dropping off, then the fee is only $2.00 per camper, you do not have to pay the $5.00 vehicle fee.

SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES:

  • Day Hike Saturday Morning (appropriate for all ages)

  • Ranger Guided Hike Saturday evening @ 7:00 p.m.

  • Games/Arts & Crafts for all ages of Scouts

  • Saturday Night Pack Dinner (food provided by the Pack)

  • Saturday Night Campfire

  • Scout’s Own Service on Sunday

FOOD & LODGING:

Food will be provided on Saturday evening for all Pack 580 members. You will need to provide dinner on Friday, breakfast for yourselves on Saturday & Sunday and lunch on Saturday as well.  The main course for Saturday night will be hamburgers and hot dogs.

Our camping sites are set across from the restrooms with dirt ground cover and mostly flat areas. There is good tree coverage for shade and a nearby playground & nature center. There are showers within driving distance located up the road in the park at the Hickey Creek Campground Area. I would recommend a jacket and a hat as it can get cool in the evenings.

As always with scouting events, there is no alcohol allowed and if your scout does not attend with a parent, then they need to have the consent form filled out and with them throughout the campout.

Should you need assistance with what you should take for the campout, please contact Alan Wilkes for questions or clarification. I do have some extra camping gear should you also have this need.

Thanks in advance for your participation. I am looking forward to another great campout and the exciting things we experience together as a pack. Please contact me with questions. I can be reached at alan@pack580.com

Respectfully,

Alan Wilkes, Outings Chair
